Conditions of Entry:
We require photo ID: Passport or Drivers license only and credit card on file. In case of emergency, it's in everyone's best interests that we can confirm exactly who is staying with us on any given night.
Payment Policy:
On line Credit card transactions incur an additional 3.5%% fee. We only charge $10 to credit card before arrival to minimise surcharge costs. balance can be made in person when checking in with no surcharge.
We only accept credit/debit card or cash on arrival, balance is to be made when checking in.
Group bookings of 6 or more people and for special events, 20% deposit is required at time of booking with remainder one week before checkin, the deposit is fully refunded if booking is cancelled with 1 weeks notice.
Cancellation policy
Bookings may be amended or cancelled free of charge up until 2 days before arrival. After this time, the guest will be liable for the cost of the first night.
If you do not cancel your booking prior to arrival resulting in a no-show, you will be charged for nights within the cancellation period. We do not accept responsibility for any external situations, including but not limited to, travel delays, weather problems or vehicle breakdowns.
Cancellations or changes to bookings made through third party websites need to be made through those websites – their booking terms and conditions may differ. We are unable to cancel these bookings directly – we will be advised of any changes you make to your booking. Extended cancellation policies apply to group bookings of 6 people or more.
Smoking Policy
No. All areas within the hostel are smokefree in accordance with New Zealand law. Smoking is permitted outside, please do not smoke in front of building, use the alley or benches on corner. Please be aware that if you smoke anywhere inside you will set off the fire alarm systems. In this event you will be charged the costs of cleaning, deodorising, drying out and repairs.
Drug use policy
Drug use is illegal in New Zealand. If you use drugs on the property we will evict you without refund.
Alcohol use policy
Alcoholic drinks are not permitted in the rooms but can be enjoyed till 10pm in the common areas such as the dining room and lounge. No drinking is permitted in Dorm bedrooms. Please make sure bottles and cans are disposed of in the bins and the noise level is kept down after 10pm. Disorderly behaviour may result in cancellation of your stay without refund.

Damage policy
Smoking, soiling or otherwise damaging your room or any other part of Uptown Backpackers will result in your credit card being charged a cleaning and repairing fee not less than $100. This includes excessive drinking, excessive noise or disturbing of other guests. Agreement with policies, terms and conditions.
Your reservation via the Uptown Backpackers website or elsewhere, is considered your full agreement with our terms, conditions and policies. Uptown Backpackers website is the definitive source of information on our terms, conditions and policies. In case of conflicting information being encountered the website will prevail.
